Ellen (Murnane) Sorenson

Ellen (Nellie) Sorenson died July 16, 2024 at 90 years old, and was surrounded by her family at the time of her death.  She was from a family of 12 children, and her husband Don, was from a family of 9 children.  Thus, she had tons of nieces & nephews.  Nellie was a devote Catholic, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother.  She was devoted to her family including her parents, brothers and sisters.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents Timothy & Ellen Murnane, her husband Don Sorenson, her brothers Dave, Tim, John (Jack), Jim, Walter, & Don, and her sisters Mary Ann Klitzke, Margaret (Peggy) Hetterscheidt, & Rosie Eaton.

Nellie is survived by her 3 children Kevin Sorenson, Sue Anderson (Jim), and Jim Sorenson (Katie).  She is survived by 5 grandchildren [Ashley (Caleb), Katy, Sydney, Kelsey and Nicholas] and 4 great-grandchildren [Anika, Lyla, Peyton and Noah].  Nellie is also survived by her brothers Mickey and Jerry.

Nellie and her sister Rosie were like Lavern & Shirley as they regularly got into goofy situations together, and they were able to laugh about it while in those situations.  

Nellie worked at the phone company after high school.  She met her husband Don and they adopted all three of their children.  She re-entered the work force in the 1970’s and retired from the Columbus City Schools in 2006.  

Nellie had multiple life-long friends dating back to high school.  Her group of friends grew over the years, and they called themselves “Card Club”.  It really was about playing cards together in their younger years, and then it transformed into just getting together and enjoying one another’s company over lunch, etc.  The group would meet once a month at TAT Ristorante Di Famiglia all throughout the years.

She loved being outside to work on her flowers, and she also loved her dog Lily.  Nellie will be deeply missed.

Ellen’s (Nellie) funeral will be held Saturday July 27, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Our Mother of Sorrows Chapel in St Joseph Cemetery 6440 S High St, Lockbourne, OH 43137.  In lieu of flowers, Ellen (Nellie) would love donating to Catholic Social Services, 197 E Gay St, Columbus, OH 43215, (614) 221-5891, or St Michael Church, 5750 N High St, Worthington, OH 43085, (614) 885-7814.
