Dr. Virginia Leighton Reynolds passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at the Country Club Retirement Center in Delaware, OH. She was 79 years old and was less than two weeks away from her 80th birthday.
She was born on May 19, 1943 in Washington, DC to George N Leighton and Virginia Nee Quivers. She was also previously married when she lived in St. Croix of the US Virgin Islands.
She earned an undergraduate degree (summa cum laude) from Roosevelt College in Chicago, IL. She earned a masters and PhD in business education from the University of Iowa and a masters in higher education from Wright State University.
She was a professor at North Carolina A&T University and Cleveland State University and was an academic advisor at The Ohio State University.
She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Hilliard, OH. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading and was a long time blood and platelet donor to the American Red Cross.
She is survived by her sister Barbara Whitfield (Robert), her children Stephen Belyn (Pamela), David Belyn (Stephene), Julianna Belyn and Lucilla Cramer, her nephew John Whitfield and her grandchildren Hannah Belyn, Jackson Belyn, Emma Belyn, Cooper Belyn, Jacob Belyn, Blake Cramer and other extended family. She was predeceased in death by her parents Judge George Leighton and Virginia Leighton.
Services will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Lockbourne, OH on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 11 AM. The funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Frank Brown. Final arrangements were taken care of by Egan-Ryan Funeral Home in Columbus, OH.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the American Red Cross. The family wishes to thank Capital City Hospice and Country Club Retirement Center for their care of her.
