Douglas Bedell Obituary

Douglas F. Bedell, age 79, passed away on October 23, 2024 after a two year battle with brain cancer. He will be greatly missed.

Doug was born to Walter & Pauline (Durjava) Bedell on December 22, 1944, in Lorain, OH. He is preceded in death by sisters Evelyn and Sheryl Bedell. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Joyce (Slaybaugh, Barker), son Steven (Angela) Bedell, granddaughters Kasie Lea & Lillian Mae, stepson Ryan (Hope) Barker and grandchildren David, Abigail, Nathan & Caleb.

After graduating from Bishop Hartley High School in 1962, Doug began a varied career which included drafting & illustrating for the City of Columbus, an apprenticeship in tool and die with Western Electric, and selling office equipment for Litton Industries. After working for a time in the family business, Star Heating and Cooling, he founded Bedell Heating and Cooling. Serving central Ohio in the HVAC industry for more than 50 years, Doug provided for many, ‘Air, as you like it!”

He served in the Marine Corps for six years both in active duty and in the reserves. Doug had a great passion for his country. In token of this he had an American flag in his front yard for many years.

Doug spent years training others in a variety of ways. He coached in the Little Buckeyes Football League for nine seasons and coordinated the East Side Dart League, which won the state championship for five years. He also mentored those who worked with him in his HVAC business. In later years he spent time with his grandchildren passing on what he knew and loved.

Coming to faith in Christ later in life, Doug attended and served at World Harvest Church. He graduated from World Harvest Bible College as a part of their inaugural class in 1992. During a trip to Israel, which fueled his love of that nation, he was baptized in the Jordan River. Later he became a faithful member of Marion Christian Center in Marion, Ohio and actively participated on the flag team for the worshiping arts ministry. For the last few years he attended Northgate Church in Sunbury, Ohio where he and his wife hosted a life group in their home.

We will celebrate Doug’s life on November 2, 2024,  at Northgate Church, 51 Fourwinds Court, Sunbury, OH 43074. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. After the memorial service, the family invites guests for refreshments from 11:30-1:00 p.m at Northgate Church.   Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5600 E. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.” II Timothy 4:7-8
