Diane (Faessel) Matuska

Diane M. (Dee) Matuska (nee Faessel) – Born March 24, 1948, Cleveland, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, May 2, 2022, age 74, at Riverside Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. Born to Michael E. and Anna L. Faessel (nee Guenther) in Cleveland, Ohio.

Preceded in death by her parents and sister, Debra J. Thompson. Survived by husband, Michael C. in an over 50-year marriage; sons Christopher (Lori) and Robert; and, the love of her life, grandchildren, Chloe and Evan. She was also blessed with many loving extended family members and long-time friends.

Dee was a registered nurse (RN) for over 50 years and began her career as a nurse at Deaconess Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Then she worked as a nurse and, later, administrator for several convalescent and long-term care facilities in and around Columbus, Ohio. She graduated in 1970 from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Dayton, Ohio, where she earned her RN degree.

She volunteered with the City of Columbus Witness Assistance Program to support victims of domestic violence. She also volunteered for the Peer Assistance Program with the Ohio Board of Nursing.

During military operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, she volunteered to head the Family Support Program for the 83rd Army Command (ARCOM) in Columbus, Ohio, for which she received awards from the both the 5th Army in Chicago, IL and the military in Washington, D.C. She was also made an Honorary Colonel in the 9th Military Judge Advocate General Detachment (Military Law Center) of the 83rd ARCOM.

An animal lover at heart, Dee belonged to many animal welfare organizations. She was deeply religious and practiced her faith daily. She was an active member of St. Brendan (the Navigator) Church in Hilliard, Ohio for over 35 years, where she volunteered in many parish organizations and activities.

Family and friends will be welcomed at EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, Northwest Chapel, 4661 Kenny Rd. Columbus, Ohio 43220 on Thursday May 12th, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday May 13th, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Brendan Church, 4475 Dublin Rd., Hilliard, Ohio 43026. Interment will be held immediately after Mass at Resurrection Cemetery, 9571 High St. (Columbus Pike), Lewis Center, Ohio, 43035.

Following interment, there will be a memorial luncheon at St. Brendan Church.

In lieu of flowers, suggested contributions may be made to St. Brendan Church in her honor or any animal welfare organization.
