David Hoermle Obituary

David L. Hoermle, age 73, passed away July 4, 2026 at his home surrounded by family.  He was born on December 20, 1952 to the late William and Claralene Hoermle, Jr.  Proud graduate of Eastmoor High School, Class of 1970. David went to the Moe Bartoli School of Hockey and then went on to play amateur hockey.  He was exceptionally passionate for the sport of hockey for the rest of his life.  Longtime member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.   David was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th Degree Knight for Council 11188 and also served as the Grand Knight.    He was very active in Columbus Public Schools.  He was on the PTA Board and served as its President.  He was a very active volunteer for Mental Health Support Groups such as PALS and the Suicide Prevention Hotline. He was very civic minded and even ran for Mayor of Columbus.  His greatest accomplishment was getting a 4 way traffic light at Route 40 and Route 37.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at Buckeye Lake. He loved old wooden boats and actually won an award at Buckeye Lake Yacht Club for his Chris-Craft boat.    He was an avid lover of dogs, especially his yellow lab, Hunter.   He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Darren and Daniel Hoermle; sister, Darleen Park.  He is survived by his wife  of 37 years, Roxanne Hoermle; son, Frank Hoermle; brother, Doug (Tina) Hoermle; sisters, Diane (Jeff Hopkins) Willis and Dora Jean (Jay Rhyan) Hoermle; sister-in-law, Gay Hoermle; brother-in-law, Mike (Adelle Gehrum) Walker; lifelong friend, Janet Ewing; many nieces and nephews.  Friends may call Tuesday from 4-7 pm at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home, 403 East Broad Street where a Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10am.  Burial to follow at St Joseph Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation, the American Diabetes Association or the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
