Daniel Francis Specht

Daniel Francis Specht, D.D.S. passed away on September 7, 2023. He was born on August 28, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio to Viola (Smith) and Francis Specht. He grew up in a hardworking family, and enjoyed playing football, baseball, and Ping-Pong with his late brothers Robert “Bob” and William “Bill” Specht. He graduated from Rosary High School and served our country in the Army during the Korean War as an intelligence sergeant in the Carlisle Barracks. He graduated from The Ohio State University School of Dentistry and worked as a dentist in Columbus until 1999. Dan was known as “Doc” during his coaching days and as “Dan the Man” in his last days. He was a devoted Buckeye fan, loved boating on the Ohio river, spending time with friends, going to the movies, and travelling the world. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. Dan is survived by his children Michael (Mabel) Specht, Cindy (Kim) Caswell, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Columbus, Ohio beginning with a rosary at 9:30 a.m., Catholic Mass at 10:00 a.m., and interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, cheer for the Buckeyes!
