Constance Andreé Dennison was born on 30 November 1933 to Andreé Pelham-Braithwaite and Courtney Pelham-Braithwaite and was the second of 6 children including Camille, Constance, Cicely, Christiane, Anne Marie and Andre Joseph, also known as Pinky. Constance passed peacefully into eternal rest on 21 November, 2024 at home in New Albany, Ohio.
In her first marriage to Kenneth Irwin Maynard in Trinidad, she had 3 children, including two daughters, Alicia Maynard Wharton Assam and Kathleen Maynard, both of who passed away far too soon, and a son, Kenneth Irwin Maynard, Jr. who survives her. In her second marriage of 51 years to Cary Dennison, who passed away in May 2021, she had another son, Stuart Lyndersay Jude Dennison with whom she lived in her last few years. Her expansive faith, love and dedication as a wife and mother was matched only by her great joy as a grandmother to six grandchildren, John, Chevonne, Allana, Kimberly, Abigail and Kayleigh and three great-grandchildren, Wonder, Kanaan and Elyse, each of whom she held dear to her heart.
In addition to being a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and beloved great-grandmother, Constance was a woman of profound faith. She prayed for her family, instilling in them a deep faith and abiding Spirit that will carry on her legacy. Her life was a testament to compassion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to her faith and her family. She will be profoundly missed but remembered always by those whose lives she touched. She cherished her family deeply, finding happiness in their lives and accomplishments, always praying for their well-being and sending love packages and gift boxes over the decades. Her family takes solace in the belief that she has found peace in God’s loving embrace, reunited with loved ones who went before her and who she loved so deeply.
A devout Catholic, her faith and worship of God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and dedication to mother Mary, was the foundation woven into the fabric of her life since she was a child. As she would often say, “It was all we knew growing up in Trinidad.” She not only lived out her faith passed on to her by her mother, but she shared it often and openly with those she loved. She prayed daily for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and many other members of her family and friends, ensuring that her love and care extended far beyond her physical world. Even in the hardest moments, including the heartbreaking loss of her two beloved daughters, she remained steadfast in her faith, belief and trust in God’s plan. She shared on 19th October, 2024, “I believe we are spiritual beings living in this world”. She lived a relatively quiet life of purpose and grace. Her prayers, her spirit, and her wisdom remain with her family and friends, a testament to the life she lived and the people she touched. Constance’s kindness and considerate nature touched everyone who knew her and she brought comfort and care to all around her. She was a woman who radiated kindness, compassion, and exhibited unshakable faith. She touched the lives of all who knew her, whether through her gentle words, her quiet acts of love, deep well of forgiveness and, of course, her well-known warm and beautifully hand-written, heartfelt letters. She was a beacon of love and strength.
She was born on 30th November, the feast of St Andrew, the apostle who first recognized Jesus as Messiah and then led his brother, Simon Peter to Jesus. She died on 21 November, the feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s presentation, the theotokos, and her funeral Mass is at the Church of the Resurrection. These milestones fittingly reflect the bookends of her life and death.
In her last days and weeks she spent a significant amount of time praying and audibly calling upon Jesus asking Him to help her. She clung to and said her rosary and her grandson, John would observe that, “Her faith is at the forefront of her mind even in the hardest times”. This was her life on earth and it remains her blessed heritage passed unto her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. We say goodbye, celebrate and cherish Constance's life of faithfulness, and we take comfort in knowing that she has now found peace, reunited with her daughters in the presence of the Lord, all of whom she so dearly loved. Her legacy will continue in the hearts of her family and friends who knew her and loved her in this life. She would wish to all those who read this, that the peace of Christ that transcends all understanding guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church of the Resurrection, New Albany, Ohio on Tuesday 26 November, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. where the family will receive friends from 10:15 a.m. -10:45 a.m.
May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of Christ rest in peace, Amen.
