Cheryl Benyi

Cheryl Ann Benyi, age 71, passed away after a brave and courageous battle with cancer in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loved ones on March 29th, 2021, in Columbus, Ohio. She is survived by her husband, David Benyi; children, Ryan Benyi (Bree Stephany) and Arin Sheeler (Scott Sheeler); grandchildren, Elijah, Abigail, and Micah Sheeler and Julian Benyi; grand-dog, Sophia; sister, Chris Burke (Andy Sylvia). She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Louise Burke.

Cheryl leaves behind a legacy of extraordinary measure. She was a kind, giving, selfless and generous wife, mother, Gana, daughter, sister and dear friend to many. Her adventurous nature took her to many unique and beautiful places around the world. She delighted in tending to her vegetable and flower gardens and backyard ponds, enjoyed a round of golf, a hike in the woods, kayaking and playing with her grandchildren. She was honored with the title of State of Ohio Outdoor Woman of the Year in her younger years and spent her career as a Special Education teacher in the Columbus Public School system.  Due to the Covid pandemic, Cheryl’s family will hold a private service.  A Celebration of Cheryl’s life will be announced later this summer.
