Carol Liimatta Obituary

Mrs. Carol Ann Liimatta, née Meyer, passed away on March 9, 2026. She was born September 4, 1938 on a farm in Woodruff, WI and moved to Lake Linden, MI where she attended grade school and high school.  She eventually moved to Columbus Ohio to raise her family.

Carol met her future husband Paul in the summer of 1951 before entering the 8th grade in Lake Linden MI.  Paul will tell you he knew then that Carol would be the love of his life.  It wasn’t until high school that they started dating and then married August 31, 1957 just four days before her 19th birthday.

Carol and Paul moved to Westerville, Ohio in 1964 and then to Columbus Ohio in 1966 where they raised their three children.  Carol was a devoted mother and homemaker.  She was an active member of Saint Andrew Parish where she served as a choir member and participated in the Ladies Club, while volunteering her time and energy to many church events.

She was a devoted patron of the local arts, especially at the Upper Arlington Arts Festival held on Labor Day.  She had a love of shopping, shopping and more shopping and as the old saying goes “shop til you drop” that was her.
She was a partner in the former Powell Ballet Studio in Powell Ohio.

Carol had a love for cooking, baking and making everything from scratch for the many gatherings she hosted and/or attended.   She mastered the skill of using Saran Wrap by having the perfect click of the wrist when tearing it off.  She would happily give everyone a complete tutorial on how to properly use this wrap.

After raising her children Carol attended the Ohio University where she learned business and shorthand transcription.  This was put to good use as she became the secretary and accountant for her husband’s Natural Gas Company.

Of her many accomplishments in life,
she will be lovingly remembered for her endless generosity of raising three generations of children.  She also had a love for animals as she cherished her four legged fur-babies Gidget, Smokey, Angel and many grand-fur-babies especially Stewie who would not leave her alone until she gave him a treat.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Paul R. Liimatta; her three children, Cheryl (Michael) Kovach, Kirk (Teresa) Liimatta, and Paul (Sonia) Liimatta Jr., seven grandchildren; Christina (Andy), Anthony (Brandy), Amber (Ben), April (Emanuel), Nicklaus (Julia), Brendon (Remy), Alivia (David); twelve great-grandchildren Liam (Meli), Morgan, Emilia, Oliver, Odin, Mattis, Lennox, Keeley, Draco, August, Vera, and Callen; and three sisters Marilyn Babcock, Janice Cleveland and Jean (Arnold) Perala. She is preceded in death by her beloved mother Margaret MacDonald, brother Vernon Anthony, nephews Gary Franks and Scott Trudell.

The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to her sister Marilyn, and her son Kirk for the care and support they provided as her Alzheimer’s progressed over the last few years.  Many thanks to the Coventry Assisted Living team for the care she received over the last 3 months.  Thank you also to Summit Hospice Comfort Care for stepping in the last couple of days.
