Carol Berger Obituary

Carol Ann Berger, age 90, entered into eternal life on May 4, 2026, peacefully at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor in Columbus, surrounded by her loving family. She endured the final difficult months of her life with acceptance, patience, gratitude, and serenity.

Carol was born January 5th, 1936, in Columbus, OH to Mary and Thomas Garrity. She attended St. Mary Magdalene grade school and then graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy High School in 1954. Carol went to work for the Diocese of Columbus, serving multiple Bishops during her employment in the chancery office. It was during this time that Carol met the love of her life, Richard Berger, on a blind date. They were married by Bishop Clarence Issenmann on June 2, 1962.

Carol enjoyed life and always had a kind, joyful, generous demeanor toward all she met. She enjoyed many things, including curling up on the couch with a good book, taking walks, the color purple, the Fourth of July, picnics, parades, playing Bridge and Euchre, watching Jeopardy!, cooking, baking Christmas cookies, the beach, and hosting family and friends for holidays, birthdays and special celebrations. Most of all, she absolutely cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always placed their needs before her own, and lived her life as a tremendous example of self-offering to others.

Carol loved our Lord and fostered a beautiful prayer life that included daily Mass for most of her adult life. She was an active parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church for over 60 years. She was often the last person to leave the church on Sunday and would sing and hum songs all the way home, her soul overflowing with joy! She volunteered her time, talent and treasure by volunteering with many ministries, especially the St. Vincent dePaul society and the Joint Organization for Inner City Needs (JOIN).

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, especially by her adoring children, Kathleen (Kevin) Arnold, Sharon (Rich) Ryan, David (Patricia) Berger, Michael (Megan) Berger. Grandchildren: Michael (Brianna) Arnold, Alison (Noah) Garcia, Rachel (Chris) Lee, Evan Ryan, Abby Ryan, Theresa (Joseph) Moore, Sarah (Adam) Searles, Matthew (Kameryn) Berger, Mary (Zach) McClelland, Susie Berger, Andrew (Hannah) Berger, Caroline Berger, Olivia Berger. Great-grandchildren: Jonah, Oliver, Charlotte, Amelia, Carter, Colleen, D.J., Aidan, Nathan, Landon, Mason, and Joseph. Siblings: Barbara (Tom) Clapp and Thomas  (Veronica) Garrity, Jr. , many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband and parents, Carol is preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Daniel Arnold.
