Carl A. Jura passed away on January 19th, 2023 in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on April 8th, 1947 in McMechen, West Virginia to the late Carl S. and Mary (Kraytle) Jura. Carl was a 1965 graduate of Bishop Donahue High School in McMechen and a 1969 graduate of Wheeling College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served with Company B, 326th Medical Battalion, 101st Airbourne Division Vietnam. When Carl got out of the service, his dream was to move to Los Angeles, California and made the decision to return to his job in Columbus with the government to save the funds to make the move. A friend from his work, Phyllis Solt, had different plans and arranged a double date with Carl and the love of his life, Barbara Gorman, on June 8th, 1972. Their first date was at TAT and included his soon to be adopted daughter, Stephanie, at age 1. Following the date, they drank beer, looked at the stars and talked until midnight. The two later married on August 2nd, 1974, in Columbus Ohio in Barbara’s parents (Karl and Carolyn Gorman) backyard. He leaves behind his loving wife of over 48 years Barbara and five children. They are Stephane (Mike) Shield, Kimberly (Dave) Muldrew, Julie (Robert) Gomez, Carl (Brianna) Jura, and Emily (Jeremiah) Jura and his grandsons Tyke Muldrew, Tucker Muldrew, Nathan Gomez, Hudson Gomez, Jeremiah Jr. Johnson, and Jonah Johnson. Carl was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Alice Jura. He is survived by his sisters Caroline (Ed) Skocik and Elizabeth (Jim) Webster, and brother John (Kathy) Jura and many nieces and nephews. A special shoutout goes to his sister-in-law Joyce Herr with whom he enjoyed many laughs and good times. Carl retired from The Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) in 2004 and enjoyed coaching his children in sports and traveling with his wife. He and his wife visited Europe five times and countless cities in the US and Canada. Carl was an active member of Holy Spirit Parish in Whitehall, Ohio for over 47 years where all 5 of his children went to school. Family will receive friends at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home, 403 East Board Street, Columbus on Friday January 27th, 2023, from 4-7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 4383 East Broad Street, Whitehall at 10am on Saturday, January 28th, 2023 with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery immediately following.
