Brenda (Delaney) O'Brien

Brenda C. O'Brien, age 92, went home to be with the Holy Spirit on April 19, 2021 at Highbanks Care Center. Brenda was born on October 22, 1928 to Katherine and Patrick Delaney in Claremorris, County Mayo, Ireland. She was one of nine children. She was truly adventurous in spirit moving from Ireland to Des Moines, Iowa in 1959 with John O'Brien to begin married life in the United States.

She was a 52-year member of St. Timothy Parish in Columbus. During that time she was involved in countless committees, organizations and other volunteer efforts to support the school and parish. Brenda was also a lifetime fan of the Cincinnati Reds; a long time member of the Shamrock Club and Daughters of Erin as well as a proud multi-time winner of the Irish Soda Bread baking contest held during Dublin Ohio's Irish Feis where she later enjoyed judging the entries. 

Brenda was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was known as "Gra-Gra" to her grandchildren who were her pride and joy. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John O'Brien; children Jarlath  (Suzie), Dee (Rod) Nutter, Joanie and Vincent; grandchildren Alex, Chase, John and Luke. Also survived by her brother Msgr. John Delaney (Pompano Beach, FL), niece Carol Tunney (San Diego, CA) and many nieces, nephews and extended family in Ireland. We were blessed to have had her in our lives and find comfort knowing she is at peace. She will be missed greatly. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 10:30am at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 1088 Thomas Lane Columbus, OH 43220. Father David Poliafico Celebrant. In lieu of flowers friends who wish may contribute in her memory to St. Timothy Memorial Fund in Brenda’s name.
