Adele Sheffieck, 92, died Thursday November 9, 2023 at Mohun Health Care. She was born in Paterson, New Jersey, August 30, 1931 and grew up in Long Island, New York. Adele graduated from Dominican Academy in New York City and earned a bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Chemistry from the College of St. Mary of the Springs (now Ohio Dominican University) in Columbus, Ohio, and a Masters of Arts degree in Religious Studies from the University of Detroit (now the University of Detroit/Mercy) in Detroit, Michigan. She was a certified Chaplain in the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, a certified consultant in Mid-Life Directions Inc., facilitating workshops in spirituality and psychology nationally and internationally, especially in Zambia, Africa. She was also a commissioned presenter for Contemplative Outreach Ltd. offering workshops in Centering Prayer nationally. She was a member of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs (now Dominican Sisters of Peace) for 20 years and known as Sister Marcella. During that time she taught in schools in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New York City, and in the Columbus area at Christ the King, St. Gabriel and Bishop Fenwick High School (now Fisher Catholic) in Lancaster. After that time, she ministered in Detroit, Michigan and in Columbus at the Pontifical College Josephinum, Riverside Methodist Hospital and the Mount Carmel Health System. She retired from Mount Carmel as Vice President of Mission in 1998. She made commitment as an Associate of the Dominican Sisters of Peace in 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen Sheffieck and by her brother, Charles Sheffieck, Jr. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marjorie Sheffieck of Grand Rapids, Michigan; a cousin, Maureen (Robert) Conte of Westerville, Ohio; a God-daughter, Anne (Korey) Koop of Plano, Texas; six nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews; and many good friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Church of the Resurrection, New Albany, Ohio on Monday November 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. where friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Adele’s name to the Dominican Sisters of Peace, 2320 Airport Dr., Columbus, Ohio.
