William Francis Weldon, 96, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 20. He was born in Columbus on June 5, 1922 to the late Patrick and Emma Weldon, the second youngest of their seven children. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Anne Duffy, his parents and his siblings. He is survived by his children: Marilyn (Raymond) Pongonis, William (Mary) Weldon, and Susan (David) Bennett; grandchildren: Raymond (Meighan) Pongonis, Jr., Katheryn (Jason) Pongonis Shough, William and Elizabeth Weldon, and Brittany and Tyler Bennett; great grandchildren: Charlie and Brady William Pongonis; and Emerson and Charlotte Shough; and many nieces and nephews. He graduated from Holy Rosary High School in 1940 and The Ohio State University in 1948. He served with the US Army in France in World War II as a member of the 724th Railroad Battalion Division. Bill was devoted to his country, his Catholic faith and his family. None of his children or grandchildren ever doubted that he was their biggest fan. He spent countless hours in the bleachers at athletic events and across tables playing endless games of euchre and gin rummy. In his professional life, Bill was a Certified Public Accountant and he retired from Battelle Memorial Institute in 1987. He was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church since 1955, where the Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, January 26 at 10 am. The family will receive guests at the church between 9:00 – 10 am at the church.
