Sr. Mary Jordan Langenhennig, OP

Dominican Sister of Peace, Sister Mary Jordan Langenhennig, died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH on Friday, May 25, 2018 , . She was born in 1934 in New Orleans, LA and in 1951 entered the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary’s, New Orleans, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace.

She earned degrees from St. Mary’s Dominican College, St. Louis University, and the University of Chicago. She taught in various schools for seventeen years and in the next seventeen years she ministered in Community Organization in New Orleans and Thomas, OK. She was the Founder of WIN (Working Interfaith Network) and spent eighteen years in that ministry. She also served on her congregation’s General Council from 1972-76 and again from 1988-1996. From 2000 to 2003, she was Prioress of her St. Mary’s New Orleans Dominican Sisters congregation.

She was preceded in death by her parents Birtles and Julie Seghers Langenhennig, and her sister Jessie Scalia. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Vigil of Remembrance Service will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018, 4:45 PM at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel, Columbus, OH with the wake continuing until 7:00 p.m.

The funeral liturgy will be held at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel on Friday, June 1, 9:00 AM. Burial will follow at a later date in Ponchatoula, LA.
