Sr. Loretta Sullivan, OP

Dominican Sister of Peace, Sister Loretta Sullivan (Mary Neil) died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, Ohio on Thursday, January 17, 2019 .  She was born in 1931 in New Haven, CT  and in 1954 entered the Congregation of St. Mary of the Springs, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace. She earned degrees from Yale Divinity School, St. Mary University, Notre Dame, IN, St. Mary of the Springs College, now Ohio Dominican University, and a certificate in Clinical Pastoral Education from Bridgeport  Hospital, Bridgeport, CT.  She taught in Middletown, PA, was Director of Religious Education St. Mary’s Parish, Marietta, OH, served the Archdiocese of Hartford, CT in various capacities, served in Pastoral Care in health care facilities, and as Catholic Chaplain for the State of CT Corrections. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius and Loretta Korn Sullivan.  She is survived by her brother Neil, her niece, Mara, nephew, Neil and two grandnephews.  A Vigil of Remembrance Service will be held at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel, Columbus, Ohio on Friday, January 25, 2019, 4:45 PM with the wake continuing until 7:00 PM. The funeral liturgy will be held at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel on Saturday, January 26, 2019, 9:00 AMwith burial at St. Joseph Cemetery by EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 East Broad Street.  Memorial Gifts in Sister Loretta’s memory may be sent to the Dominican Sisters of Peace, Office of Mission Advancement, 2320 Airport Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43219 or submitted securely at oppeace.org.
