Paul C. Berry died on August 27, 2018. He was born on November 9, 1931, to Catherine and Girard Berry Sr. of Columbus. Paul graduated from Aquinas High School and the University of Notre Dame. He served in the U.S. Army, then became chief machinist and later part-owner of Berry Brothers Bolts for 32 years. He created blueprints of historic American buildings for the Library of Congress. He began a passionate research which would never leave him: the Latin language and Roman history in the time of Christ. This love produced 12 books, beginning with The Christian Inscription at Pompeii (1995). The last, Latin Ritual in the First Century, remains unfinished. Paul was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Columbus, where he served as an inspiration and guide for preserving the Tridentine Mass.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents; brother Girard "G" Berry Jr. and "G's" wife Mary, and nephew Matt Nelson. He is survived by sister, Catherine Nelson, and four nieces and nephews: Cathy Beto (Andy), Berry Ravitz (John), Andrew Nelson (Shelly), and Girard Berry (Diana). A Solemn High Requiem Mass will be held on Saturday, September 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 584 West Broad Street. The family wishes to deeply thank friend, John Sullivan, and the parish community at Holy Family, who happily served as family to Paul as well. He is already greatly missed by all of us, and now beloved in Christ's community in glory.
