To the family of Mike Flaherty,

I'm sure you all know how blessed your life has been with Mr. Flaherty in your life; a gentle giant with the greatest sense of humor and a knack for connecting with people. 25 years after graduating, I still tell his story about the effectiveness of a single aspirin as birth control. The room always erupts in laughter and I think of Mr. Flaherty smiling away.

I am so happy for you to have had this man in your life and I am sorry that you won't get to enjoy his physical presence any longer. May God continue to bless you all at this time.

Mike, you were the best teacher I ever had...you inspired me to want to learn and not just go to school. Just like you did for thousands of other young people in the DeSales community. You taught us discipline and respect, I am just glad I never experienced the end of your pointer. I vividly remember watching the first space shot in 7th grade St. Matthias on an old black and white TV, and you impressing on us the courage of the astronauts. I think we were your first class after you left Bellaire and to this day I still have great memories of you and your funny Irish stories. You have left a great legacy of students you put on the right track of life. May God bless you and hold you in the palm of his hand. My condolences and prayers to all your family, I know you will be missed.

Mr. Flaherty was one of the best teachers I ever had both at St. Matthias and DeSales. He was a true role model for all of us. My prayers are with the family.

It's not often you meet a profound example of true caring in an instructor. He was LOUD and I loved it - Got our attention but was gentle. I learned under his leadership at St. Matthias. It was in his glass that we learned of the assassination of Pres. Kennedy and he walked us though that gently. Sincere condolences.

So sorry for your loss, and I am sorry for my loss as well, Mr Flaherty was so instrumental to so many of us, He used to walk down the isles and we couldn't wait to hear what he was going to say next. Fortunately I had the pleasure of having him in High School as well, I will really miss you, and thank you for all you did for me.
