James M. Mentel, age 78, Sunday July 23, 2017. Born November 4, 1938. Graduate of Aquinas College High School class of 1956 where he led the 1956 Aquinas baseball team to the city league championship. Licensed Professional Surveyor with Franklin County Engineers Office where he was responsible for the design of State Route 315. Director of Landfill Operations Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio where he contributed to the design and construction of the current central Ohio sanitary landfill, designated as the largest in Ohio. Member of the Engineers Club of Columbus, Shamrock Club of Columbus, Emeritus member of Charity Newsies and a long time member of St. Mary Magdalene Parish.

Preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Victoria K. Mentel, his parents Bernadette and Raymond J., Jr., brothers Raymond, Charles, and Patrick, sisters-in-law LuAnn Mentel and Constance Mentel, nephews Gary P. Mangini and Patrick Casey Mentel.

Survived by son and daughter-in-law Michael C. and Marisa (Rotolo) Mentel, grandchildren Angela M. and Connor A., brother Michael T. (Linda) and sister Barbara M . (Gary) Mangini, Jr., many nieces, nephews, cousins, his special friend Eileen Woodward and numerous other friends.

Friends may call Thursday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 4661 Kenny Rd. Rosary to be prayed at 2 p.m. Mass of Christian burial Friday 10 a.m.  at St. Michael Catholic Church, 5750 North High Street. Entombment St. Joseph Cemetery.
