Welcome to the memorial page for

D. Michael Quinn

December 20, 1951 ~ August 22, 2017 (age 65) 65 Years Old

In loving memory of D. Michael Quinn, age 65, who passed away Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017 at his home in Columbus OH.  Survived by his beloved wife of 35 years Cathy A. (Marando) Quinn, son Michael Patrick Quinn; mother Annie R (Bobbie) Quinn of Portsmouth VA; brother William R. Quinn of Portsmouth VA; sister in law Marian (Steve) Paskash of Demotte IN; brother in law Richard Pfeiffer (San Antonio TX); nephews Will & Chad (godson) Pfeiffer and many cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father Will Matt Quinn and his sister Carol A (Quinn) Pfeiffer.

Born in Syracuse NY, his family lived in many parts of the country but Mike settled in Columbus (Clintonville and, more recently, the Knolls) after graduating from Ohio Wesleyan University and Capital Law School. He protected Buckeye families for more than 38 years as an attorney with the State of Ohio as hearing officer and banking and securities regulator, and he deeply believed in his work as a public servant. His coworkers admired him for his exemplary leadership and sage council, saying “there are precious few who rival his deep knowledge of state securities laws; none more generous in sharing it.” This was further demonstrated by his involvement and leadership in NASAA, from whom he was given an Outstanding Service Award.

Mike had been an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Clintonville, served as a leader for the Boy Scouts of America at Immaculate Conception Church and was very active in the YMCA, serving on the Board of Directors for 20 years and playing an instrumental role in the major renovation in 1992.  In every endeavor, what best defined his discipline and commitment was his personal passion for fitness. Mike believed to his core in the values of mind, body, and spirit as the integral strength for personal achievement and fulfillment. These principles were exemplified through years of dedication to fitness, including over 20 marathons and multiple running’s of the Boston Marathon, as well as numerous triathlons.

Friends may call on Wednesday, August 30 from 4-7 p.m. at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 4661 Kenny Road where a Wake Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a sharing of memories to follow.   Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 31 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 414 East North Broadway.  Private burial at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Mike would have appreciated blood donations to the American Red Cross. He would also have enjoyed donations being made to Pelotonia for rider Dr. Don Benson (Mike’s oncologist) or the YMCA of Central Ohio.
