Clarence Joseph Schimmel, Jr. died suddenly on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at his home. He was the son of Clarence J. Schimmel, Sr. and Helen P. Schimmel. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, in 1931. He was a 1949 graduate of St. Charles Preparatory School and he graduated from The Ohio State University with a major in Education. He taught for several years at Hebron High School and worked for 30 years at The Columbus Defense Supply Center from which he retired. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He was a lifetime loyal Catholic while contributing generously to the funds of many faiths which serve the poor and needy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Leslie Schimmel who died in 1994, his parents and a sister who died as an infant. Clarence loved to debate his liberal bias with his friends while at the same time proclaiming himself to be a true conservative.
At Clarence’s request there will be no calling hours; there will be a Memorial Mass at 9:00 am Thursday Oct. 18 at St. Anthony Church, 1300 Urban Dr., and a graveside service at 12:30 pm at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 6440 S. High St. Friends, if they wish, may contribute to The Missionaries of Charity (Mother Theresa’s organization) at 335 East 145th Street, Bronx, NY 10451.
