Sofia Hondroulis Obituary

Sofia Manouras Hondroulis, 83, passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones in Columbus, Ohio early on March 12, 2024.

She was born on February 21, 1941, in Alkalahori, Greece on the island of Crete, and earned her degree as a midwife in Athens, Greece.

She married Pete Hondroulis in December 1966 then became a mother to three boys, John, Constantine, and George.

Sofia was deeply devoted to her faith in Christ and the Greek Orthodox church to which she was an integral part of the community both in New Orleans and Columbus. She turned her passion for sewing into a career late in her life where she was beloved, and developed friendships with each of her customers.

She adored her entire family but had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. She showered them with unconditional love and served as an example of grace for which they will forever hold in their hearts and minds. She relished in family gatherings where she showed her love with her talent for cooking and the traditions passed on from prior generations. With every family meal moving forward her legacy will live for generations to come.

Sofia is survived by her sons and their spouses Wendy, Lesley Fogle, and Julie Whittaker; grandchildren Lauren, Lindsey, Fritz, and Henry; great-grandchild Nova; and siblings Freda, Andrea, Costa, and Popie and their respective spouses and children who still live in Greece.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete, in 2004, and her parents Eutixia and Yiannis Manouras.

Visitation will be at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home (Northwest) at 5 - 6:30 pm with Trisagion service 6:30-7:00PM on Thursday March 14.
