William Joseph McLoughlin

May 5, 1919 ~ May 24, 2016 (age 97) 97 Years Old

William Joseph McLoughlin, age 97, passed away peacefully at home on May 24, 2016.  Bill was born in Columbus on May 5, 1919 to the late William A. and Anna McLoughlin.  He was a graduate of Aquinas College High School.  After graduating he married the love of his life, June Rose Barry.  Shortly after their wedding, Bill was called and served proudly in the U.S Army in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Bill's career in the optical business spanned over a period of nearly 50 years.    A faithful member of St. Leo and Christ the King Parishes, Bill was also a dedicated volunteer at Bishop Hartley High School, St. Lawrence Haven and St. Vincent DePaul.  Bill was Notre Dame’s #1 fan and on his 90th birthday, a lifetime dream was fulfilled when he was presented with an Honorary Degree from the University of Notre Dame, thanks to the efforts of his loving sister Mary.  Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.  In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, June Rose; brothers, George, Andy (Marilyn), John (Norma); sister, Rita (Carl) Willis, and brother-in-law, Al Matuska. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Kathy (Leo) Di Francesco, JoAnn (Rich) LaRocco, Mike (Peggy) McLoughlin, Sue (Lenny) Smith, Margy (Rich) Farrin and Jim McLoughlin; grandchildren, Jack (Denise) Hollerich, Lara (David) Kimbell, Heidi (Mike) Sargent, Kristin (Donovan) Gibson, Shane McLoughlin, Katie Farrin, Emily (Rodrigo Iglesias) Farrin, Ryan Smith, Eric (Lindsey) Smith, Ashley McLoughlin, Amanda McLoughlin; 11 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Chris, Hannah, Heather, Audrey, Olivia, Caitlyn, Nathan, Tyler, Kyle and Aiden; sister, Mary Matuska; brother, Tom (Maxine); sister-in-law, Patty; and many nieces, nephews and friends.  Friends may call Tuesday, May 31 from 4-8 p.m. at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home, 403 East Broad Street.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 2777 East Livingston Avenue.  Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.  Our family would like to sincerely thank the staff at The Woodlands of Columbus and Hospice of Central Ohio for their dedicated care.  In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Bill’s memory may be made to Christ the King's St. Vincent DePaul Conference or a charity of your choice.
