Welcome to the memorial page for

Veronica (Shields) Seguin

October 22, 1952 ~ January 14, 2018 (age 65) 65 Years Old

Veronica Lynn Seguin of Columbus, Ohio passed away at home surrounded by her family on January 14, 2018. Veronica is survived by her husband of 35 years John, her daughter Claire (Ben), and her sons Nicholas, Thomas (Amanda), Neil, and Christopher. Known affectionately to her family as “Pudie”, she was sister to Thomas (Brigid), Mary Patrice (Jean Paul), Karen (Mark), Gregory (Margaret), and Judith (Patrick), and a sister and daughter-in-law to John’s family. She was a loving aunt to 28 nieces and nephews.

Veronica was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1952 - the eldest child of the late Thomas and Bernice Shields. She attended Seton High School, received her B.A. in Education from Saint Louis University, and began serving others as a special education teacher in the Greater Cincinnati area before moving to Kansas City, and finally Columbus 25 years ago.

Veronica enjoyed the outdoors and travel - she worked as a camp counselor, backpacked Europe, traveled extensively in the U.S., and passed these appreciations on to her children. She read widely, was an accomplished cook (feeding a small army at home), and a thoughtful friend. Veronica was a curious, intelligent, witty woman - always full of energy, resourceful, and gracious.

Veronica was the anchor of her family and her home. She was steadfast and generous. She was an incredible example of selflessness, giving, and unconditional love for her family, her community, and those less fortunate. She was an active supporter of faith-based, service, and educational organizations. Veronica was a devout Catholic and believed strongly in Catholic education for her children while actively exposing them to a diversity of people, cultures, and ideas far beyond the classroom.

Pudie will be remembered for her compassion for others, her ardent respect for God's earth and her unconditional love for her children, husband and family.
