Sylvia Ann Jackson, age 71, departed this life Wednesday, March 28, 2018.
A long time resident of Columbus OH. Sylvia was born March 12, 1947 to Artence Walton and the late Esrich Walton. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, JD Jackson; children Jaja Jackson, Taha Jackson, and Aziza Jackson; grandchildren Megha Jackson and Naveena Jackson; two sisters Beverly and Helen; brother Esrich; a host of other relatives and friends.
Graduate of Bowling Green State University and Michigan State University. Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Sylvia taught in her hometown of Dayton, OH. for two years, and then on to Michigan State University where she taught for 3 years. Sylvia was a professional educator, and a 40 year veteran of the Columbus City School District. She specialized in grades K-8 and unique techniques centered around performance art. Sylvia was also an instructor training teachers at The Ohio State University, and Thurber House in Columbus Ohio. Sylvia has been repeatedly published in prominent education publications.
She is a long time follower of the Science of Spirituality. Grounded in the Christian faith from childhood, we embrace a blend of Baptist and Presbyterian faith and evolved to a universal understanding of one God. We feel that our church home is anywhere in the world where God resides.
A private family meditative time will take place with interment to follow at Ottawa Hills Cemetery, Toledo, OH. There will be a Joyful Celebration of Sylvia’s life to be announced at a future date.
Arrangements being handled by EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 E. BROAD ST. Friends who wish may contribute in Sylvia’s memory to the Columbus Metropolitan Library or the Columbus Museum of Art.
