Susan Elizabeth Young, 71, passed away early Sunday morning, October 15,2017, in
Columbus, Ohio, after a lengthy illness.

Susan was born on July 23, 1946, the only child of Thaddeus and Ruth Young. She spent most
of her growing-up years in Akron, Ohio and graduated in 1964 from John R. Buchtel High
School. She enjoyed attending Kent State University, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelors'
degree in English literature. She maintained strong friendships throughout her life with many
of her childhood friends; they provided a source of joy and companionship throughout the
decades. She did not marry.

Susan worked at several companies including Scotts Seed and Fertilizer company in Marysville,
Ohio. She was an excellent writer. creating unique marketing and advertising copy for both
the Professional Golf Division and Consumer Services Division. She advanced to
Communications Supervisor for these two divisions before retiring early for health reasons.

During retirement, Susan volunteered countless hours assisting others. She kept track of her
"flock" by using her own version of the "1,000 cards 'Acts of Kindness' "movement. She
created 1,000 cards customized with a 'random acts of kindness/ giving to others' message,
and included her name and contact information. She continued to help many personal
friends, or more often, strangers for over twenty five years; anyone who, as Susan often said,
'God put in my path for a reason they need someone to care about them.' At the time of her death Susan had only 56 cards left.

Susan loved many things including muscle cars, golf, chocolate-covered cherries, and using
her gifts to help others She had great strength of character, spiritual gifts, a deep and
unshakeable faith in Jesus, a witty and dry sense of humor, love and great humor for her
friends, and a deep love for animals of all kinds. Her parents and beloved dog, Casey.
predeceased her.

A memorial Mass will be held for Susan on Saturday. December 9, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church

in Columbus, at 434 Norton Rd. Columbus. OH 43228 (614) 878-5353. A committal
service will be held at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, in Akron, Ohio, at a later date.
