Dominican Sister of Peace, Sister Francine Ashoff, died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH, on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.      She was born in Homestead, PA in 1922 and was professed in 1943 to the former congregation of St. Mary of the Springs, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace.  She earned degrees from the College of St. Mary of the Springs, (now Ohio Dominican University) and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She ministered as a teacher in Connecticut, Michigan, Pennsylvania, in Steubenville Ohio and in the Columbus diocese at St. Thomas in Zanesville, St. Mary Lancaster, OH, at Holy Name, and St. James the Less in Columbus. She is preceded in death by her parents, Adam Ashoff and Victoria Paskert Ashoff, and brothers Vincent and Donald. She is survived by her sister, Bernice and her brothers, Edwin and Alfred and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews.  Her body will be received at the Columbus Motherhouse on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 3:00 PM, followed by a Vigil of Remembrance Service at 4:45 PM.  The wake will continue until 7:00 p.m. The funeral liturgy will be held at the Columbus Motherhouse on Wednesday, January 17 at 9:00 AM, followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery.   Memorial gifts in Sr. Francine’s memory may be sent to the Dominican Sisters of Peace, Office of Mission Advancement, 2320 Airport Dr., Columbus, OH 43219 or submitted securely at oppeace.org.
