Michael Edward Flaherty was born in Martins Ferry, OH to Eileen and Joseph Flaherty in 1935.  He grew up in Bellaire, OH.  He passed away on March 20, 2017 surrounded by his family.  He is a graduate of Bellaire St. John, LaSalle College, and Xavier University.  He taught at St. Matthias Grade School and DeSales High School, his career covering 34 years.  He was preceded in death by sister Patricia Bell, and brother James.  He is survived by his wife Regina, and children James (Kristi), Joseph (Laura), Margaret Dardinger (Rex), Timothy (Marcy), and Ellen Gaus Day (Mark).  His is the grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church 6899 Smoky Row, on Friday March 24, at 11:00 am.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to DeSales High School, Mike Flaherty Scholarship Fund, 4212 Karl Road Columbus, OH 43224  or  Meals on Wheels 1699 West Mound St. Columbus, OH  43223.
