John Howard Ziegler

John Howard Ziegler, age 92, passed away at Middleton Senior Living in Granville on February 14, 2018.  John was born on December 30, 1925 in Chillicothe, Ohio to the late Edward and Magdalene (Schneider) Ziegler.  He graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic Central High School in 1944.  John was a US Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific on the USS Waukesha.  He retired from Len Immke Buick, later Crestview Cadillac, in 1987 after 42 years.  John was a longtime member of Christ the King Catholic Church where he served as an usher, Eucharistic Minister, and took communion to the sick.  He was a very devout man who loved his faith and found his calling in helping others.  He was a volunteer at the Holy Family Soup Kitchen, St. Vincent de Paul, Meals on Wheels, and Mt. Carmel East Hospital.  John was a good, kind, cheerful man who never complained and found happiness working in his yard, watching the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Browns, and spending time with his family.  He will be deeply missed.  John is preceded in death by beloved wife, Helen (Knies) Ziegler, whom he married on September 14, 1948 at St. Joseph’s Cathedral.  Also preceded in death by infant son, John Michael, and brothers, Edward and Robert Ziegler.  He is survived by daughter, Susan (Terry) Van Offeren and son, John (Terri) Ziegler; grandchildren, Andrew and Catherine Van Offeren, Amanda (Ronnie) Rhodes, and Lauren (Seth) McDowell; great-granddaughters, Emma and Ava Rhodes; sister, Dorothy DeLong; sister-in-law, Irene Ziegler; numerous nieces and nephews.  Friends may call Sunday from 1-4 p.m. with a prayer service at 4 p.m. at EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 403 E. Broad St.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 2777 E. Livingston Ave.  Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.  The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Middleton Senior Living and Hospice of Central Ohio.  In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute to the Holy Family Soup Kitchen, 57 S.
