Welcome to the memorial page for

Doris Marian Brundage

February 16, 1931 ~ August 29, 2016 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Doris Marian Brundage, age 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Mt. Carmel East Hospital on Monday, August 29, 2016.  She was born on February 16, 1931 in Oak Park, IL, the daughter of Swedish immigrants Fritz and Jenny Anderson.  She was a graduate of Proviso High School in Maywood, IL, and attended Northwestern University. She was married on December 28, 1950 to William (Bill) Brundage, Sr., and together they raised 5 children while traveling between various Air Force bases throughout the country. Doris and Bill celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2010.  Doris was an active long time member of St. Catharine of Siena Church, where she sang in the Housewives Choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Her passion was in living out her Christian faith as a full time homemaker.

Doris was loved for her kindness, her smile, and ready willingness to help and encourage others, whose needs she consistently put above her own with an infectious joy and optimism.  She tirelessly served and befriended widows and others in need of transportation and a listening ear.  She enjoyed hiking, gardening, listening to music, singing around the house and in the choir, playing the piano, and watching musicals and classic movies, especially comedies where she would regularly laugh out loud!  It was not unusual for her to tackle tough DIY home projects requiring lots of elbow grease and perseverance.  She embraced her Swedish heritage and traditions. Doris coordinated many memorable family vacations and trips to the Chicago area, and regularly made time for conversations with relatives and neighbors. Along with Bill, she attended daily Mass and prayer meetings on a regular basis. They both were active in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal and openly embraced daily prayer and its power in healing and in confidently handling life’s challenges.

Doris's strong faith, selflessness, and joy will continue to be a source of inspiration to all of her immediate and extended family and will be greatly missed. Predeceased by parents Fritz and Jenny Anderson, husband William, and granddaughter Anne Marie Brundage. Survived by children William, Jr. (Irene), Martin, Thomas (Patsy), Robert (Eleanor), and Mary Brundage; grandchildren Theresa Marie (Adam) Thompson, Elizabeth Brundage, Maria Brundage, John Brundage, Peter Brundage and Matthew Rohrer; sister Jean Pender; and many nieces and nephews.
